Fun and Games – Wenlock and Mandeville Tickle the Ivories

In May 2010, an orchestra gathered in Angel Studios, London, to record the first of the Olympic Mascots’ animated film soundtracks. Two years later, and with just a few days to go before the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, Wenlock and Mandeville’s madcap adventures have entertained countless viewers in cinemas and online in a series of four films, with a story by Michael Morpurgo, always to the accompaniment of scintillating orchestral scores by composer Thomas Hewitt Jones. The final film, Rainbow to the Games, will be shown on CBBC on  Friday 27th July at 5pm (viewable on Freeview CBBC channel or CBBC iPlayer); an album of the soundtracks is available on iTunes here. And pianists can play the Mascots’ main theme in an arrangement for solo piano, available here.

Having played the piano part in three of the orchestral soundtracks, it has been a pleasure to record the main theme for solo piano. Enjoy!
